A fresh and functional approach to your office attire

The New York based womenswear designer knows just what we need for a fresh and functional approach to office attire

Born in Uruguay and based in New York, Gabriela Hearst has fast become a go-to name for the modern woman wooed by a wardrobe of elevated basics. Her collections are rooted in the ideals of the normcore movement, but lifted by plush fabrics and sturdier silhouettes - think wearable trouser suits in high-octane upcycled fabrics and easy-to-wear dresses in structures stern enough for the office environment. "Beyond the design aesthetics there’s a function to it and a utilitarian aspect," described the designer when asked by MOJEH why women lean towards her pieces.

Her latest collaboration sees the designer teaming up with Matches Fashion for a wearable line-up featuring aloe linen, silk crepe and wools. Several of the pieces were hand woven by a not-for-profit producer Manos del Uruguay. Highlights include a quirky equestrian print in sedated tones and the use of rich hues such as dark cerise and aegean blue. For those with a penchant for this year's take on double denim, look towards the shirt and skirt two-piece in dressed-up, dark denim.

"Matches Fashion generously gave me the freedom to create an exclusive capsule that connected London and New York.  Given my background on the ranch, I had the idea to illustrate the horse races in Belmont in New York for the print on my signature silk shirting styles, with the link of Royal Ascot in the UK," Hearst speaks of the equestrian print, as featured above. "I felt this perfectly mixed my upbringing in rural Uruguay and my life in New York City."

These are the three looks MOJEH's fashion desk have pegged as the perfect additions to the working wardrobe, all available exclusively on Matchesfashion.com.
