The Michelin Guide has once again come to town to celebrate Dubai’s ever-growing culinary landscape

The Michelin Guide held its awarding ceremony in Dubai on 4 July at the swanky One&Only One Za’abeel to celebrate the city’s culinary achievements. It is the third edition of Michelin Guide Dubai and has been much-anticipated; this year saw plenty of new additions and recognitions.

Jason Atherton’s spectacular Row on 45 has been awarded 2 Michelin stars

Four Dubai restaurants earned their first Michelin star – namely La Dame De Pic Dubai, Sagetsu by Tetsuya, Smoked Room and Orfali Bros – while Jason Atherton’s Row on 45 was awarded two stars. As for the Bib Gourmand recognition, which celebrates restaurants that serve well-executed cuisine at an affordable price point, six new restaurants were added. These are Berenjak, Duo Gastrobar, Hoe Lee Kow, Konjiki Hototogisu, Reif Kushiyaki (Dubai Hills) and Revelry.

In addition, 11 new restaurants have been added to the Michelin selected list, bringing Dubai’s total to 106. These include LPM, Qabu by Paco Morales and The Guild.

Individually awarded prizes were distributed to Apichaya Khomson of DuangDy by BO.LAN, Micheal Mpofu of Celebrities by Mauro Colagreco, Jesus Lobato Suarez of Smoked Room and The Guild for Service Award, Sommelier Award, Young Chef Award and Opening of the Year, respectively.

The Michelin Guide was first created by the tire company, Michelin, to encourage tourists to travel by road. While the Guide has come a long way since its humble origins, the meanings of the stars remain the same: one star references high-quality cooking that is worth a stop; two stars is classified as ‘excellent cooking, worth a detour’; and three stars marks exceptional cuisine that is worth a special journey.
