As the summer season beckons, these exercise-free procedures and treatments are the best in the business for toning, perfecting and refining the body, all without a scalpel in sight

The pressure to look and feel your best for summer is no small thing, be it wanting to confidently show some skin in a show-stopping wardrobe or simply perfect your limbs for the next few months of epic travels. If you really wanted to, you could probably make a full-time job out of beautifying yourself before the season with invasive surgeries, but thankfully today’s movement towards less imposing beauty regimes has resulted in a wave of treatments and products designed to do the hard work so that you don’t have to.

“Body treatments have come a long way from traditional methods like body wraps, which were primarily focused on temporary solutions such as detoxification and hydration, to more advanced techniques driven by technology,” Dr Raja, aesthetic doctor and skin specialist at Derma Aesthetics London tells MOJEH. “Today’s body contouring treatments utilise advanced technologies like radio frequency, ultrasound and laser therapies that can target specific areas of the body to reduce fat, cellulite, tighten the skin and improve overall body shape. Results can also be achieved in just a few sessions, unlike traditional methods that may take weeks or even months to show noticeable changes. We’ve definitely come a long way.”

The lowdown: The pursuit of rippling abs may be a never-ending one, but thankfully there is a way to cheat. One half-hour session of EMSculpt equates to 20,000 sit ups, helping to build lean muscle and reduce fat cells by using electromagnetic energy to repeatedly contract muscles. A process that is almost totally painless, very effective and can be done on the behind too, you need four sessions over the course of two weeks for best results.

Number of sessions: Most people need at least four sessions to achieve maximum results from the treatment. Sessions should be taken one week apart.

Price: Dhs3,150 per session

Microneedling

Best for: Stretch Marks

The lowdown: You may have tried microneedling on your face, but did you know your body can benefit, too? By creating tiny microscopic punctures, the treatment instigates the skin’s innate wound healing response, prompting our cells to work harder, produce more collagen and create fresh new tissue. Great for body acne scars, stretch marks and even cellulite, it can be done on areas such as thighs, upper arms and abdomen, with six treatments recommended at six-week intervals. “While microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is very popular for the face, its use for tackling stretch marks is relatively new,” says Carole Semaan, beauty therapist — dermatology and aesthetics at Medcare Medical Centre Jumeirah. “That said, we’re already seeing excellent results, with the treatment working to minimise their appearance by increasing the collagen content of the skin while revitalising its appearance.”

Number of sessions: Two to three 45-minute sessions are required to notice visible results, followed by additional sessions from four to 18 months on, depending on skin type.

Price: From Dhs1,800 per session

Where: Medcare, various locations in Dubai and Sharjah. Book now

Skin Boosters

Best for: Hydration

The lowdown: An injectable treatment designed to deliver saturating hydration to the deeper dermis, skin boosters excel at crafting silky smooth skin. Come summer, consider it for any area you plan on showing off, from the shoulders to the midriff. Typically utilising hyaluronic acid, which is naturally found and results in a more supple and radiant complexion, the type of acid present in skin boosters also has a biostimulatory effect, promoting increased production of collagen and elastin while improving the appearance of textural irregularities to leave the skin looking and feeling noticeably smoother. “Unlike topical skincare products, skin boosters deliver active ingredients directly into the deeper layers of the skin,” says Dr Derrick Phillips, consultant dermatologist at BioLite Clinic. “Their targeted delivery system and customisable formulations make them more effective than creams and serums with similar actives.”

Number of sessions: Two to three sessions are recommended to see results when using skin boosters like Jalupro Super Hydro.

Price: Dhs 2,730 per session, Dhs 6,552 for three sessions

Where: BioLite Clinic, Umm Suqeim, Dubai. Book now

Ultrasonic Cavitation

Best for: Fat loss

The lowdown: Utilising low level ultrasound waves to revitalise figures when used in conjunction with a healthy lifestyle, Ultrasonic cavitation works by using a high-tech device to reduce subcutaneous adipose tissue thickness, liquifying fat cells which are then flushed out of the body with the use of ultrasonic waves. Designed for areas with localised adipose tissue such as the thighs, abdomen and buttocks, when combined with radio frequency it can also tighten and strengthen the skin while generating collagen. It’s advised to drink at least 1.5 litres of water before and after the session, while clients must also carry out light cardiovascular exercise immediately afterwards. “Ultrasonic cavitation stands out in the field of body contouring due to its unique qualities, offering targeted fat reduction in stubborn areas, effectively smoothing cellulite and providing a slimmer silhouette,” Bless Shanes, senior operations manager at Rayya Wellness and Wellbeing tells MOJEH. “Additionally, it stimulates collagen production, resulting in firmer, tighter skin, making it a gamechanger in the field.”

Number of sessions: You’ll begin to see noticeable changes anywhere between the third and sixth treatment, with sessions spaced out every 72 hours to allow the body to process the fat released during the treatment.

Price: Dhs1,500 per session, Dhs4,500 for three sessions, Dhs9,000 for six sessions.

The lowdown: Designed to reshape areas of the body where fatty deposits can build up and be tricky to remove, such as the arms, back, waist, abdomen, thighs and buttocks, Endosphéres therapy sends low-frequency micro-vibrations deep into the skin through a roller device comprising 55 silicon spheres. Working on a lymphatic level to tone and tighten, it simply feels like having a deep fat-busting massage, with sessions lasting from 20 to 60 minutes depending on the area being treated. It fights heaviness on the legs too, making it great for athletes. “What’s more, it also improves collagen and elastin production, reduces wrinkles and sculpts the body, with our therapists able to target and shape different areas,” says Jenna Melay, CEO and founder of Resync Wellness Centre.

Number of sessions: Results can be seen after five treatments, with sessions recommended weekly.

Price: Dhs3,300 for six sessions

Where: Resync, DIFC, Dubai. Book now

Velashape

Best for: Tackling cellulite

The lowdown: While it’s something we all have, cellulite can be a point of insecurity for many of us. That’s where Velashape comes in. An FDA-approved treatment that relies on infrared light, radio frequency and a vacuum to help tone up areas prone to puckered skin, together they stimulate collagen and help tighten areas like the stomach and thighs.

Number of sessions: Expect to have up to six weekly sessions to see full results.

Price: Dhs5,000 for five sessions
