From Nudestix to Nudeskin, Jenny Frankel is the beauty gift that keeps on giving
It was almost 10 years ago that chemical engineer Jenny Frankel and her two then-teenage daughters, Ally and Taylor, came up with a plan to launch Nudestix. “We started talking about what was missing from the beauty industry,” Jenny tells MOJEH. “At the time, everyone was talking about ‘more is more’ makeup – there were so many steps and tools, and what we really wanted was to provide a minimalist makeup collection.”
Fast-forward a decade later, and the multi-purpose, cream-formulation crayons, which do the work of a lip liner, long-lasting lip stain and smooth, creamy blusher all in one handy pencil, have taken the industry by storm. Equally as popular is the brand’s most recent collection, Nude Love – a family of mainly blushers and a few glows in unique tones, including purples, crimsons and a few beautiful nudes that work on all skin tones.
“We want to ensure we support diverse skin tones while following the minimalist trend we are seeing more and more today,” adds Jenny. “Especially since Covid, we’ve learnt to wear less makeup, we’re going out less, maybe getting ready for a Zoom in five minutes, so we need products that are multitasking, quick and easy to use.” Not just a hard-working beauty staple, Nudestix defines clean beauty, being paraben-free, mostly vegan and made with only good-for-you ingredients. “We also wanted to make sure we were thinking about the environment,” explains Jenny.
Talking about the iconic Nudestix plate tins, the world’s most infinitely recyclable material, she adds: “We created a sustainable packaging concept, so that we’d never encourage a one-time use, throwaway culture. That was really important to us.” So what’s next for Jenny, Ally and Taylor? “Nudeskin is what’s next,” enthuses Jenny. A partnership with Beverly Hills dermatologist Dr Jason Emer, this four-step skincare system involves cleansing, exfoliating, toning and moisturising, making it easy to follow and extremely effective. “It’s basic skincare, and when I say basic, it’s because it doesn’t matter if you have young, mature, oily, acne or dry skin,” adds Jenny. “The basic principle to good skin, regardless of your skin type, is cell removal, and that’s what we’re focusing on.”
As with all of the brand’s products, tubes are fully-recyclable, and come in fully biodegradable boxes. “There’s no concern with creating extra garbage on our planet,” Jenny concludes. That’s what we like to hear. Shop now
