Heavy Metal: How To Wear The Metallic Lipstick Trend This Festive Season

There are plenty of reasons to look forward to the holiday season, but one of our favourites is the opportunity to wear beauty’s boldest trends, which can sometimes look out of place during the rest of the year. And what we love most about the metallic lipstick trend is it's festive without being too flashy. Here's how to wear it and the products you need to invest in.

As with any dramatic lip look, you don’t want to apply an eye-catching hue over dry, flakey lips. So, before putting on colour, do a little prep work by using a lip scrub like the Indie Lee Coconut Citrus Scrub to help slough off dead skin cells. Then, follow up with a lip primer such as the Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Primer, which will help create a smooth base for application as well as help keep your lipstick in place and wear evenly throughout the day. To help prevent feathering, you’ll also want to use a lip liner that either closely resembles the colour of your lips or the shade of lipstick you’re going to apply.

After you’re done lining your lips, apply your chosen metallic lipstick with a wand or lip brush for precise application. If you get a bit of colour outside the lines, all you have to do is soak a cotton tip with a little bit of micellar water or makeup remover and wipe it around the edges of your lips to help create an extra-crisp finish.

To help ensure your lipstick is the star of the show, you’ll want to keep the rest of your makeup fairly natural and ensure you even out the look of your skin tone with a matte foundation.
