Ever wondered what goes into making a bag like Dior’s Book tote? The French maison is giving curious fans a sneak peek behind-the-scenes at the construction of one of this season’s most popular bags. Designed in Paris and put together in a tailoring atelier in Umbria, a single Book tote takes over 32 hours of work and more than 1.2 million stitches.

In total, over fifteen shades of green, red, violet, fuchsia, orange and blue combine and clash to form a unique and hypnotizing design. Seen on the spring summer 18 runway in Paris last September the bag, designed by Dior’s Artistic Director Maria Grazia Chiuri, took inspiration from French-American sculptor Niki de Saint Phalle, merging the artist’s archival bold pattern with a multicoloured embroidered canvas. The result is colourful and exuberant, a testimony to Phalle’s work.
