Huda Kattan: Who Is She and How Did She Get Her Start?
Huda Kattan found herself down and out. Stuck in a job where she was undervalued yet overworked, the soon-to-be beauty mogul was not destined for an office role. She was itching for an opportunity to pursue her passion. An unexpected layoff resulted in the serendipitous sign she had been searching for. Setting out on a wing, a prayer and a $6,500 investment from her sisters Mona Kattan and Alya Kattan in 2013, she began to set the beauty scene ablaze.
Faced with the setback of unemployment and instability, Huda Kattan persisted. Unsure whether she would be able to make the money back for her siblings, her next move would determine her future. After training as a makeup artist in Joe Blasco’s makeup school in L.A., she had garnered an impressive black book of stellar A-list clientele such as Eva Longoria and Nicole Richie. However, she was often dissatisfied with the quality and sub-par choices available at the time. Taking the time to meticulously mould the false eyelashes to the client's eye shape, she quickly found her first product: fasle eyelashes.
After the initial launch of her industry-defying eyelashes, uncertainty crept in. Yet, after selling out in stores Dubai-wide and entering a partnership with Sephora, Huda Beauty became a verified success. As the brand history recounts, she had sold out all 7,000 units in Sephora Dubai Mall within the first week. Once she had solidified Huda Beauty’s presence in UAE, the juggernaut set her sights on the States in 2015 and expanded her business to the USA with resounding success.
This year, Huda Kattan announced a rebrand of her eponymous brand. From its sleek black and pink lettering, “huda” now stands to attention in lowercase in a block and embossed style.
