With a continuous aim to raise awareness for equality across the globe, Manal A Rostom – a boundary breaker and a woman of no limits – knows how to conquer challenges and smash any stereotypes that come her way.
The Egyptian hijabi model, Nike ambassador and founder of Surviving Hijab – an online platform that brings together a community – is constantly faced with fighting negative stereotypes since her decision to wear the hijab at the age of 21.
And for 2019, she has set her sights even further.
Launching an adventurous initiative through Surviving Hijab, Manal gathered a group of 14 different women from around the world to lead an all-female expedition to the Everest Base Camp, earlier this month.
The team (with participants from Palestine, Syria, Canada, Hungary, Saudi Arabia, UK, UAE, Lebanon, Egypt and Australia) pushed their limits to fulfil a common goal – to fight stereotypes about the hijab and highlight inclusiveness for all women.
Boasting unity and women empowerment, the climb took place from March 17-25, and was documented and supported by Namshi – the UAE’s favourite shopping platform. Coming on board as the initiative’s key sponsors, Namshi ensured the women had a smooth climb by providing them with the best gear for the hostile (and we mean, very cold) environment. As well, Namshi documented the daily struggles and achievements throughout the adventure.
