Emaar Properties will build the region’s largest Chinatown in Dubai
Property developer Emaar recently announced that it is set to develop the region’s largest Chinatown within the retail district of Dubai Creek Harbour. The announcement also happened to coincide with Chinese President Xi Jinping’s historic visit to the UAE.
The development will occupy a central location within the six square kilometre mega project and is set to rival Dragonmart (Dubai’s premiere shopping destination for Chinese-related products) and will feature some of China’s top brands, as well as international fashion labels that appeal to Chinese tourists, including China’s millennial brides.
Emaar is also strengthening its outreach to China by opening three dedicated offices in Chinese cities served by direct daily flights to Dubai on Emirates. The three offices – in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou – will promote tourism, education, trading and investment between UAE and China.
“The development of the new Chinese retail and lifestyle district at Dubai Creek Harbour – as well as Emaar’s expansion into China, in property and hospitality – highlight our commitment to the country” explained Mohamed Alabbar, chairman of Emaar Properties.
China is the fourth largest visitor source market for Dubai, with tourist and business traveller arrivals at 401,000 between January 1 and May 31, 2018, a growth of nine percent over the same period in 2017.
