MOJEH speaks to jewellery designer Neeta Singh about her inaugural collection and the launch of her brand-new jewellery platform, Sahas

Congratulations on the launch! Can you tell us a little bit about Sahas?

Thank you! Sahas is a luxury jewellery brand founded by myself, Neeta Singh. Sahas has a unique approach to jewellery from concept to craftsmanship. We aim to blend timeless elegance with modern artistry. Our pieces are more than jewellery - they’re stories forged into gold and carefully crafted to resonate deeply with those who wear them.

What inspired you to launch Sahas?

The inspiration for Sahas stemmed from a desire to empower individuals through jewellery. After years of creating designs for close friends and family, I saw the transformative power a single piece could have. I wanted Sahas to be a brand where each creation reflects the wearer’s story, and that’s what drives me to offer pieces that speak to the heart and soul of our customers.

What is the philosophy at the core of Sahas?

At the core of Sahas is the expression of the ‘feminine divine’ - it’s why a story lies in the heart of every piece. Our commitment to authenticity, quality and ethical practices ensures that each item is as unique and meaningful as the person wearing it. Two initiatives that distinguish Sahas and embody our philosophy are our use of blockchain technology and our vow to plant a tree with every purchase. Blockchain allows us to provide complete transparency, giving clients confidence in our ethical practices, while our tree-planting pledge is a way to honour and give back to Mother Earth. These commitments are an expression of the Sahas brand which prioritises integrity, sustainability and long-term meaningful impact.

Sahas is an ethical brand. What does this mean in the jewellery industry and why was this important to you?

For Sahas, being ethical means practicing transparency and sustainability in every step of the process. We work with lab-grown diamonds and ethically sourced raw materials to ensure that each piece aligns with our values. In an industry where full transparency is often found to be lacking, we are committed to creating luxury that respects both our clients and the world around us.

Who is the Sahas woman?

Well, "Sahas" (साहस) is a Hindi word that translates to "courage" or "bravery". It signifies the quality of being bold, fearless and adventurous. In Indian culture and philosophy, "sahas" represents the inner strength and resolve to face challenges and overcome obstacles with bravery and determination. It embodies a spirit of daring and resilience, often associated with heroic acts or courageous endeavours. This for us is a ‘Sahas woman’: she is bold, authentic and effortlessly elegant. She values craftsmanship, appreciates meaningful and symbolic pieces, and views jewellery as an extension of her identity. She is a woman of strength, grace and courage unafraid to express herself through distinctive, beautifully crafted jewellery.

What is the hero piece of the inaugural collection?

The hero piece of our inaugural collection is the “Solis” pendant. Solis is more than a statement - it’s a deeply symbolic piece. Crafted in three types of gold - yellow, white and rose - each type represents one of the three Gunas: Rajas (activity), Sattva (purity) and Tamas (inertia). The pendant’s seven sides symbolise the seven chakras, with the central focus on the Sahasrara chakra, the crown of spiritual energy, which also inspired the name “Sahas.” Solis embodies harmony and energy, making it both a powerful emblem and a timeless and an intricate piece of artistry.

Which piece was the most difficult to create?

In truth, nothing feels difficult; each piece is a journey. However, some take more time and reflection to evolve. We have a unisex pendant which symbolises the balance of sun and moon. Designed to represent harmony, it’s a bold piece that embodies the yin-yang balance, wearable by anyone, regardless of gender. From concept to paper to the final crafted piece, the journey required patience and precision, making it one of my favourite designs. It’s called “Celestia” - it certainly turned out to be a meaningful piece!

Which piece is the most sentimental?

The Heritage Bangle holds special sentimental value for me. Inspired by traditional design, it connects deeply with my heritage, and we’ve engraved the Mahamrityunjay mantra on the inner side. This subtle detail brings a sense of strength and spiritual empowerment to the wearer, creating a piece that not only honours the past but also fosters a connection to the divine.

Which emerging designers do you showcase on Sahas, and was there any specific selection criteria?

Our platform is open to both emerging and established designers from around the world, allowing for a rich, diverse collection. We select designers whose work aligns with our values of creativity, quality and sustainability, and we’re excited to showcase exclusive collections that will debut on our platform. Watch this space for incredible talent from far-reaching corners of the globe.

Sahas translates to ‘courage.’ What were you apprehensive about when launching Sahas, and how did you overcome the challenges?

Launching Sahas was an exercise in courage, as we wanted to create a luxury brand rooted in ethics and authenticity in a highly competitive market. Staying true to our values has always been crucial, even if it meant taking a longer road. We are driven by transparency, quality, and innovation as it’s important to us to earn trust and foster a brand that resonates deeply with our customers.

When did you fall in love with jewellery design?

My love for jewellery began very early on, admiring my mother and grandmother’s collections and the stories each piece held. Designing for close friends and family gave me a firsthand experience of how jewellery could bring joy and confidence, and I realised that I wanted to create pieces that do the same for others.
