Piaget's Latest High Jewellery Collection Takes Us To A Tropical Paradise

Jul 13, 2020 | 4 min read

Nothing lifts the mood quite like a series of sparkling gems; the gateway to a world of fantasy and glamour. Bursting with colour and paradisal beauty, Piaget’s 2020 high jewellery collection is imbued with this much-desired sense of escapism — complete with fanciful wings to whisk you away.

Wings of Light, the latest high jewellery offering from Piaget, is an ode to the tropics. The joyous collection transports us to far-flung destination with shapes inspired by nature’s exotic allure and vibrant bolts of colour scattered across clean lines and exceptional stones. The Piaget Bird becomes a motif for the high jewellery series, as its soars across a wondrous paradise split into three chapters; Enchanted Flight, Magnificent Haven and Ecstatic Dance.

The first chapter reveals the Majestic Plumage Set, drawing inspiration from fanciful feathers in rich tropical tones of blue-green, yellow and red. Recreated through a rainbow of multi-coloured sapphires, spinel and tourmalines, the set beautifully mimics the movement of an exotic bird’s wing created by French feather-work artist, Nelly Saunier. Seamlessly combining form and function, Saunier’s feather marquetry can be removed from the necklace and worn as an embellished ear cuff.

At the centre of chapter two, Magnificent Haven, sits the Secret Cenote cuff-style watch that echoes the blues and greens of tropical vegetation found in the natural pools (poetically named cenote) hidden within the heart of the jungle. The calming colour of water is reflected through diamonds, sapphires and the Australian black opal which has been used in Piaget horology since the 1960s. Set in an asymmetrical design, the cuff conveys immaculate craftsmanship and elegance, while the emulating the serenity of nature.

After soaring through a tropical oasis, Wings of Light’s final chapter takes us into an Ecstatic Dance of vivid sunset shades. Full of freedom and flamboyance, this chapter is brimming with rich rubellites, pink tourmalines and hand-made golden engraving that reflects the warmth of sinking sun, painting its rays into the sky. These rays are created by marqueteure Rose Saneuil, using carefully cut leather, wood, and mother-of-pearl marquetry — a new signature method for the house.

While travel plans may be up in the air, Piaget’s flight of fancy offers an enchanting journey through the tropics — with wanderlust-fueling gems we can wear and treasure forever.
