Fendi Has Transformed Its Mamma Baguette For SS25

Feb 05, 2025 | 3 min read

The return of the Mamma Baguette is a reminder that true icons never fade - they evolve

Some bags define a season, others define an era. And then there’s the Fendi Baguette - arguably one of the most iconic It-bags of all time. Immortalised by Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City (who famously scolded a thief with "It’s not a bag, it’s a Baguette!"), the compact, flap-covered silhouette became the accessory of the late ’90s and early 2000s. Now, Fendi is reviving one of its most beloved archival pieces: the Mamma Baguette.

Making its triumphant return on the Spring/Summer 2025 runway, the Mamma Baguette isn’t just another re-edition - it’s a reimagining of what timelessness means in modern luxury. Bigger, softer, and effortlessly chic, the bag embraces the fluidity of contemporary dressing while staying true to the Fendi DNA. This isn’t nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake; it’s an evolution.

A Mother’s Legacy, A Maison’s Heritage

Created in the late ’90s as an homage to Fendi matriarch Adele Casagrande Fendi, the Mamma Baguette was conceived as the larger, roomier sister of Silvia Venturini Fendi’s 1997 Baguette design. It carried all the signature elements - rectangular shape, flap closure and FF logo buckle but, with a softer, more practical edge. A statement of effortless luxury, the Mamma Baguette quickly found itself in the arms of style icons like Jennifer Lopez, Paris Hilton, and Sarah Jessica Parker, solidifying its place in pop culture history.

For 2025, Fendi has reinterpreted the silhouette with ultra-supple nappa leather and a tactile drawstring closure, creating a balance between nostalgia and modernity. Available in three sizes - Large, Medium, and Small, the Mamma Baguette seamlessly shifts from day to night, from minimalism to statement-making.

A Colour Story of Quiet Luxury

With a palette designed for refined versatility, the Mamma Baguette arrives in timeless shades of dove grey, black, and white, alongside delicate pastels like pale pink, sage green, and matcha. For those craving a touch of Fendi’s material mastery, a luxurious black python version and intricate floral embroidery both beaded and suede, offer a tactile indulgence that elevates the bag into art.
