There aren't many high-jewellery Houses that can say their pieces are displayed in a world-famous museum, let alone three. Cindy Chao The Art Jewel is a pioneer of craftsmanship and innovation in high jewellery and has masterpieces on display at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C., Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Not the only accomplishments under Cindy Chao's (likely diamond-adorned) belt, the designer became the first Asian jewellery artist to receive the Knight of the Order of Arts and Literature from the French Ministry of Culture.
Cindy Chao founded her eponymous label in 2004 and celebrates two decades of boundary-breaking artistry this year. The 20th anniversary collection is an ode to the Maison's iconic emblems - Dragonfly and Four Seasons - and features 10 titanium brooches. The Four Seasons-inspired brooches centre around the leaf motif, which symbolises the ever-changing properties of nature. Each leaf brooch reflects a different season - emeralds adorn summertime leaves, orange sapphires and yellow diamonds evoke autumn and white diamonds are used to replicate snow-covered leaves. The impeccable craftsmanship - each brooch is set with a minimum of 1,500 gemstones - is a hallmark of Cindy Chao.
The collection's dragonfly brooches capture the delicate nature of the creature through coloured gemstones of over 50 hues, a combination of metals and light-activated resin. Though light as a feather, the dragonfly brooches are heavy with symbolism - a representation of resilience and power, the dragonfly honours the designer's metamorphosis over the last twenty years.
