Priyanka Chopra Jonas speaks to MOJEH about becoming the new global ambassador for Bulgari and how it aligns with her beliefs.

2021 was quite the year for Priyanka Chopra Jonas. The actress, film producer, activist, and best-selling author has just added global ambassador for Bulgari to her roster of achievements. An inspiration to millions of women worldwide, her new role with the Roman high jewellery house sees her continuing to champion diversity, inclusion, and female empowerment.

Known for her humanitarian efforts, first on her list as global ambassador is raising funds for the Covid-19 relief in India. Having partnered with non-profit Give India to support the country’s healthcare structure, Bulgari has announced that it will also be donating. Her advice for those looking to follow in her philanthropic footsteps is to make time. “A lot of people have the best intentions, but carving out time more than anything, more than money, is important,” she says. Another tie to her home country and what makes working with Bulgari even more significant is the brand’s historical ties with India. Sourcing many of its precious gems from the region, it also collaborates with local artisans and jewellers, a fact she says: “I feel very proud of.”

Joining a roster of leading ladies including Julianne Moore, Zendaya and Lisa from South Korean girl group Blackpink, Bulgari’s appointment of Chopra Jonas shows its commitment to diversity and inclusivity. “If you look around the world, it doesn’t look like one person, and that’s what, especially in luxury, we need to promote,” she says.

The Jannah collaboration, helmed by HH Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, shows the beautiful outcome of two cultures colliding. Meaning ‘paradise’, the pieces feature the five-petal Jannah flower, which is found throughout the decor of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. “The Jannah collaboration is Rome and the UAE coming together to make something so unique. The cross-pollination of cultures is very interesting to me, and that in itself is inclusion,” muses the actress.

When it comes to female empowerment, Chopra Jonas believes that it is all around us. “It’s in every home when you look at your daughter, your sister or your mother,” she says. For her, the meaning of empowerment is freedom. “For her to have the freedom to pick and choose the life that she wants. To lead as men have enjoyed for so many years,” she adds.

For someone who has achieved so much, she admits that she isn’t a morning person, rarely waking up with energy to take on the day. To help herself feel empowered, Chopra Jonas has a secret weapon: “I remind myself of my strengths. I remind myself of my victories. When I think of that and remind myself of what I bring to the table, I find my confidence again, I can take on the world.”

A long-time jewellery lover, Chopra Jonas considers herself a collector. “I feel that jewellery is an expression,” says Chopra Jonas. “It’s what you want the room that you walk into to feel when you wear it. There are days when you want to feel fragile and gentle. There are days that you want to feel opulent and grandiose. So, I choose jewellery based on how I’m feeling on the day.” When choosing her favourite piece from Bulgari, she jokes: “I need to own a little bit more of their high jewellery.” A fan of the Serpenti collection, with bracelets and rings already, she’s currently eyeing a necklace. “I’m dying to wear the one which is mouldable. It’s almost like a wrap, and I’m trying to find a dress for that,” she says. No doubt, it will be a showstopping moment for any upcoming red carpet Chopra Jonas graces.
