Luxury jewellery brand FRED has opened its doors in The Dubai Mall, so prepare to upgrade your high jewellery box

When French jewellery brand FRED agreed to make a diamond-and-ruby necklace for classic Julia Roberts movie Pretty Woman, back in 1990, it had no idea what a hit the creation would be. Earlier this year, FRED released a high jewellery collection and fine jewellery range in honour of the collaboration, which is one of the maison’s three main pillars at its newly opened Dubai boutique. Flush with rubellites and diamonds, the collection, which is fronted by Julia Roberts’ niece, Emma Roberts, is uniquely romantic, with a heart motif in crimson red rubellite at the centre of everything from pendants and bracelets to brooches.

Founded in Paris in 1936 by Fred Samuel, and perhaps best known for its Force 10 bracelet – the second of FRED’s three pillars – the fine jewellery house was the first jewellery brand acquired by LVMH back in 1996. However, long before then, since 1966, its renowned Force 10 collection has been constantly reinterpreting the codes that characterise it – the buckle and sailing cable. Be it a playful, multicoloured Color Crush buckle crafted from ruby, garnet, yellow sapphire, tsavorite, blue sapphire, aqua marine and amethyst, or the strong and sturdy Black Diamonds tennis bracelet combined with a broad buckle in white gold, this true icon of the house is as stylish as it is versatile.

The Force 10 collection is a FRED staple

The third of its pillars, Chance Infinie, is a reworking of the 8°0 collection launched in 2016 to mark the maison’s 80th anniversary, transforming into a talisman, with a subtle design that evokes the benevolent spirit watching over the wearer. Comprising necklaces, earrings and bracelets, its double loop resembles a sideways figure of eight as a nod to Fred Samuel’s date of birth and his lucky number, with its interlacing loops inspired by the lemniscate, the symbol of infinity and eternity.

There’s plenty more where those three collections come from too, so we recommend taking a trip to the new FRED boutique ASAP. Available at the FRED boutique, The Dubai Mall
