Dior’s Rose des Vents Collection Is One For The Free Spirits

One piece is never enough when it comes to Dior’s Rose des Vents collection

The Rose des Vents collection of jewellery hails all the way from the seaside town of Granville in France, a place where Monsieur Dior spent his summers as a child in his family villa, ‘Les Rhumbs’. His lucky charm was a wind rose, a tool that detects wind direction and has an eight-pointed star on its compass-like face. This very tool was used as the inspiration for the collection. Reinterpreting this lucky star into these stunning pieces, creative director of Dior jewellery Victoire de Castellane says, “I wanted to start from the idea of a little motif pendant. And what is more metaphorical than a medallion?”

Including necklaces and bracelets in white and yellow gold, mother of pearl, pink opals, turquoise and diamonds, you can layer these treasured trinkets to your heart’s content. Featuring rope-like chains, the sun, moon and solar system, the designs also pay homage to life at sea. “Creating is about searching, turning things over and then finding one’s cardinal point and setting off on a journey. Creation is the product of a stationary voyage,” explains de Castellane. Also inspired by a gouache sketch, the designer used many steps to create this bespoke compilation of jewels including using malleable green resin to form the models as well as using age-old wax-impression techniques to make the moulds for the gold.

Brought to life in a clever campaign by the stunning Cara Delevingne, this is the third year the model, actor and singer has been the face of Dior Joaillerie. Much like the Rose des Vents collection, Delevingne brings a contemporary take on a classic story. Dressed in jeans and hair scarf, the campaign is a true representation of Delevingne and her free spirit. This collection works best layered, so if you are new to this look, make sure you stack those rings, bundle the bracelets and experiment with short and long necklaces. Perfect to dress up any day look, the Rose des Vents collection is for the classically cool girl who loves life (and gorgeous jewellery). Shop now
