From runway to reality — consider this your ultimate guide to the jewellery fashion girls can’t get enough of this season.

BIG EARRINGS

Street style at NYFW SS20

ON THE STREET: Over-sized raffia hoops and a wicker-detail bag add flair to a neutral toned outfit.

ON THE RUNWAY: Jacquemus seemed to take inspiration from stationary with models showcasing gold-toothed clips holding paper-weight fabric squares.  Stella McCartney also seemed to take her inspiration from the stationary cupboard for autumn winter, with strings of yellow paperclips streaming from one model’s ears.

Louis Vuitton’s version of the trend was avant-garde – a large single feathered creation which dangled over the collarbone. While Lanvin’s colourful tassels would make a welcome addition to any festive outfit. The general consensus was in favour of the bold and the beautiful. So if it’s gigantic hoops, fringing or chandeliers, the message is clear, go big or go home.

A CHUNKY CHAIN

ON THE STREET: A resin-looking large link necklace elevates this show-goer’s outfit — pair with clashing prints and textures for a bold statement.

ON THE RUNWAY: Chains seem to be the go-to for adding tougher attitude to pretty dresses and blouses, and they were all over the catwalk this season. At Alberta Ferretti it was all about ear decor – large silver chains rotated around in interlinked circles and dropped to the shoulder.

At Adeam gold chain upon gold chain were layered around the neck and accessorised with pearls. At Balmain, large, almost-industrial looking, pewter chains were worn like headbands – the edgy look was balanced by the glamour and intricacy of the clothing.

At Versace they came over all dominatrix, gold chains were wrapped twice around the neck like collars. Having also spotted them at the SS20 shows, this trend shows no signs of waning. Get ahead of the fashion pack, now.

HAIR CLIPS

ON THE STREET: A smattering of pearl slides add an unexpected element to this street style maven in fuchsia pink.

ON THE RUNWAY: This year hair accessories have come over all nostalgic. While summer was all about 90s hair clips – logoed, slogans and shells were everywhere – this season they’ve lost their teenage spirit and grown up.

Chanel pinned hair half back with diamond-encrusted slides at their  inspired collection. Dolce & Gabbana teamed pinstripe suiting with sleek and glossy 20s hair. It was pinned back with heaps of diamond slides in the most divine fashion.

Paco Rabanne’s jewelled clips held back braids, and at Simone Rocha ruby rhinestone hair clips matched over-sized earrings and complimented floral detailing in dresses. Perfect inspirations for the part season which happens to be incoming…
