The Chanel maison presented its first collection without Karl Lagerfeld’s creative direction…
After Dior and Prada presented their Cruise 2020 collections, respectively, it was time for Chanel’s showcase at Paris’ Grand Palais.
Marking the maison’s first-ever show without Karl Lagerfeld at the creative helm, Chanel instead debuted Virginie Viard’s solo collection.

Even though Chanel’s new creative director presented a first-go, Virginie managed to usher in the next era of the French fashion house – all whilst staying true to Karl’s vision.
First, Virginie channelled the over-the-top runway setups that Karl was recognised for throughout his tenure at Chanel. For the Cruise 2020 showcase, the runway was turned into a Beaux-Arts style train station, and models walked on the train platform alongside the tracks.

As for the collection, a total of 79 runway looks were unfolded on the tracks. Adding a fresh new take on Chanel’s signature silhouettes (including its tweed and suiting), Virginie strengthened femininity as it appeared more prominent. Plus, there was a more playful element to the collection with a series of bows adorning blouses, belts, and dresses.
But, that still wasn’t all to take in.
The collection boasted Jackie-O influences, ’80s shades and some achingly cool accessories. We’re certain those will end up on your wishlists (and ours, too).
