Why Aztec Is August's Hero Print

Aug 13, 2018 | 5 min read

Either dressed up or down, Aztec is a print to be played with this month

Model Amber Heard steps out in a Saint Laurent Aztec printed dress and sets the tone for a polished approach to August

Light prints and sugary tones aren’t the only way to anchor your summer wardrobe. They may look fresh, but at times the occasion calls for something a little richer. (Even at the height of summer). Re-enters the Aztec print. For an evening appropriate look, try sporting a metallic infused piece. Not without stilettos, of course.

The most recent celeb sighting: Amber Heard attending The Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Grant Banquet in Los Angeles, California. The model wore a long sleeve dress in metal mesh and threadwork embroidery, teamed with the Amber sandal. Both pieces: Saint Laurent (a go-to designer for Heard).

The best thing about the Aztec print is its ability to look rich and refined at a drop of a hat. Throw on a simple dress and add a pair of gold or silver statement earrings. Tip: steer clear of any tribal reference jewellery. This trend is about fleshing out the qualities of Aztec, not overloading on native inspired pieces. Flux between day and night with either sandals or heels. You can attempt brogues or this season's ankle boots for a dressed-up day look.

Fluffy curls or undone beauty could err on the side of boho. That’s a no no for this trend. Channel Heard and opt for sleek hair and make-up. Polished perfection it is.
