Forget all the working connotations of a boiler suit - pilots, plumbers, inmates - this season fashion’s most utilitarian one-piece is being championed as the epitome of style.
Luxury fabrics and attention to detail like hard-wear and belts have turned practical boiler suits into cool, chic and comfortable must-haves. Trust us, this is one garment that can transform you from just-woke to achingly hip in one fell swoop.
On the runway, Louis Vuitton’s blue boiler suit was given a fashion edge with white piping and an eyelet detail belt. Ferragamo’s version sported an a-symmetric zip and toggle waist, while Stella McCartney opted for a traditional khaki hue for her belted and buttoned number, which was also layered over a shirt.
Elsewhere they proved the fashion pack’s go-to piece for one-step dressing. Taking the pressure off putting together coordinated outfits, editors and influencers alike opted for this one-piece wonder instead.
There were two brands in particular which kept cropping up, though. Frankie Shop’s Linda belted brushed-twill jumpsuit (above) is first up. The relaxed shape, the utilitarian pockets and the fact that you can cinch in the waist with a belt and give yourself a shape, gave this piece its magnetism.

Isabel Marant Etoile’s Guan patchwork cotton-garbadine jumpsuit also proved a hit (below). The khaki shades stay true to the heritage of the boiler suit, while the relaxed fit and adjustable waist-tabs come together to form the perfect silhouette.
Leave the military boots behind for this one though, this piece is best paired with point-toe pumps and sandals, as demonstrated on the streets.
