Summertime Blues
Head-to-toe navy kept us style savvy for AW14 and remained a fixture of the spring/summer collections, lending a touch of cool to a season of hothouse colours. A fraction lighter this time around perhaps, but no less impactful, this deep royal blue bestowed a luxurious air on eveningwear and tailoring alike. Few designers strayed far from the tried and tested formula of letting the colour speak for itself in simple column dresses, pea coats and loose silk trousers. The Row’s origami-like draping was manifested in the calm tone, and Richard Nicoll’s silk gown with diaphanous overshirt is everything we want in a dress this season.

Primary School
The runways were flooded with Piet Mondrian’s palette for SS15. Bold reds, blues, greens and yellows saturated dresses in textures from leather to technical pleats. Olivier Rousteing at Balmain dedicated an entire collection to primary tones, sending mesh-panelled bodycon dresses and fire-engine red jumpsuits down the runway with aplomb. The trend reverberated everywhere from Alexander Wang to Peter Pilotto and transcended the couture collections too, most notably Atelier Versace. Think bold, bright and beautiful.

Al Fresco
Gingham has sprung into our lives for SS15 as a palette all of its own. Pastel tones work best for a feminine dose of primness while darker colours give a graphic edge to the micro-checks. Bring a little al fresco spirit to the city in tailored skirt suits courtesy of Altuzarra or clash colours and play with proportions as seen at Temperley London.

Walking on Sunshine
It has a reputation for not being the easiest colour to wear but, trust us, there’s a yellow out there for everyone. From pastel lemon (Issey Miyake) to the deepest mustard (Chloé) and every sunny shade in between, experiment to find your favourite hue and bring a ray of light into your wardrobe

Like A Diamond
Metallics needn’t be confined to the winter months. Reimagined for SS15 in soft pearlescent pinks and the lightest of greys, the reflective luster seems just right for summer. Stepped up at Chanel, burnished silver pailettes added drama to eveningwear, while Roberto Cavalli offered a silver croc jacket and skirt that simply gleamed. Ice cool when paired with white or offset with accents of black, it’s time to shine.
