How Karl Lagerfeld took us all on an extraordinary voyage for the Chanel Cruise19 show
Paying homage to Coco Chanel’s passion for seaside resorts, Karl Lagerfeld took the Grand Palais and transformed it into an extraordinary voyage for the Chanel Cruise 19 show. With an erected cruise ship named La Pausa as the backdrop, he sent out a nautical inspired collection of crisp whites, signature striped 2 piece suits and embellished berets. Here are MOJEH's favourite 8 pieces that'll having you yearning to venture out to sea.
The Beret
Hats don't come any chicer than this. Yes the seafaring-inspired beret took on different forms and colours, adding attitude to the Cruise collection’s summery inspiration.
The Oversized Blazer
Chanel's classic suiting were balanced with tent-shaped tweed jackets for a more modern edge.
The C Logo
From tops to berets and even buttons, the emblematic logo adorned almost everything.
White Tights
Fresh, the opaque stockings channeled the Cruise collection’s primary colour of white, bringing purity and some preppiness to the girly Mary Jane flats worn by models.
Shades of Pink
Pastel dreams took shape in the form of feminine silhouettes for jackets, skirts as well as dresses.
Nautical Prints
The signature of a sailor’s uniform, stripes emerged in various motifs throughout the collection. From feather-embellished dresses to cotton poplin and even cuff bracelets, it was all about horizontal blue and white lines.
Layered Jewellery
Lagerfeld gave us a master class in how to wear jewellery this season and the lesson was easy - it's all about putting layer on top of layer, and the more the better.
The Buoy Bag
Bearing the name of the villa Gabrielle Chanel built on the Riviera, the La Pausa red and white buoy bag echoed the nautical spirit of Karl Lagerfeld's collection.
