The model wears hers cinched at the waist and with a beige Burberry scarf
Consider this: The Mod movement of the 1960's is officially having its comeback. Sleek, slightly risque and consisting of lots and lots of leather. Luxury labels, from Fendi to Hermes, have been capitalising on leather for years. But when the likes of model and It-girl of the moment Bella Hadid buys in to it, it becomes less of a wardrobe staple (usually hanging somewhere between the white shirt and over-sized blazer), and more of a must-have trend. Last week, Hadid stepped out in Milan, Italy, and re-ignited our love for the LLT (long leather trench).
In between Milan's Menswear Fashion Week shows, Hadid showcased a heavy Matrix-meets-Mod style trench. Cinched in at the waist and featuring long slit pockets, the LLT looked cool, contemporary and slightly laissez-faire. (The latter being key to the trend - go soft and unstructured, not stern and corporate). It's a look very similar to the pieces worn by models Imade Ogbewi and Roos van Bosstraeten on the Hermes and Acne Studio autumn-winter 2019 runways respectively. Hadid teamed her LLT with a black zip-up jumper, cat-eye sunnies and a beige scarf from Riccardo Tisci's Burberry collection.
So, how should you wear your LLT? It's simple. When working 'winter' in the Middle East look towards light shades such as cream, beige and stone wash in soft, paper thin leathers. But when in Europe, layer up and reach for thick, dark options like Bella Hadid.
