The season may have changed, but there is one dress style that's here to stay...

The streets of New York Fashion Week always serve up plenty of style inspiration, but while the sun might have set on the city (the spotlight is moving to London) it appears fashion’s love affair with florals is turning into a long term romance. And despite the change in season, there’s one ubiquitous look that is still going strong, the humble floral dress. Not only were the streets strewn with decor in the form of editors and influencers dashing around in pretty prints, but the catwalks for autumn winter and next spring dictate that this is a trend that shows no signs of waning.

On the streets, Caroline Issa stepped out in a dress by Spanish label Paco Rabanne - the multi coloured floral print dress featured a button front and flared skirt. It's also currently available at MyTheresa and Browns Fashion. While actress Alexandra Daddario showed her loyalty to designer Tory Burch in a mid length floral dress from her collection while attending the show. Elsewhere, we spotted a show-goer in a beautiful lightweight pink floral Zimmerman maxi.

For autumn, they seem to be taking on a more relaxed 70s vibe, too. But the really great thing about florals is they can slot into any wardrobe, and at any time of year. Whether it’s a delicate bias cut silk number or something with a little more swish, the updates are all in the way you accessorise. Slips and sleeveless dresses are offered modesty for the new season by way of layering - a second-skin knit or bodysuit under a dress. When it comes to long-sleeve dresses, a blazer is the smartest solution.

Thankfully, whatever you decide, the end result is the perfect blend of comfort and style. So if you have invested in a silk number from The Vampire's Wife, or a Tory Burch floral maxi, keep it at the forefront of your wardrobe. If you haven’t, buy one now. This is a dress that can take you from work to cocktails, to a wedding, and beyond. You can swap between heels and trainers, or sandals and boots - its seasonal appeal is pretty limitless and it’s versatility knows no bounds.
