STATE OF PLAY

Playing dress-up takes on an entirely new meaning this summer with jubilant shapes, elaborate colour codes and fanciful adornment to perk up your wardrobe  — and your mood. Opt for glorious gowns destined to be danced in, high-spirited suiting in fun fabrics and pieces that inspire a sense of joy; a throw-it-over-anything and feel fabulous kind of mood.

Whether it’s a magenta Valentino gown that swishes when you walk, delightful sheer ruffles from Tory Burch or  bountiful butterfly sleeves bursting from a powder blue Givenchy dress, spring/summer 2020 has served us with looks that spark optimism — especially when topped off by haute headwear or chandelier-style baubles.

Look to sequins when spirits are low (courtesy of Leilou’s glittering green gown), feathers when you want to dream (in the form of Valentino’s fluttering plumes) and tailoring when you need to sharpen up (in the shape of Alexandre Vauthier’s slick suit). Put joyful hues on regular rotation — offset pink and plum with a splash of teal — and take on the summer in the most playful silhouette you can find.
