The belt bag returns for SS18 as the It accessory as sported on the street-style set this season

The fashion industry might have given it multiple names, from bum bag to belt bag and even waist bag, but today’s version of the 80s mum’s favourite go-to accessory has little resemblance to its predecessor, the fanny pack. Gone are the days when only tourists toted around those bright magenta bags around their waists; now everyone from Bella Hadid to Kaia Gerber is going hands-free. The accessory trend, carried over from FW17 into the SS18 collections, has seen designers up the ante with a whole new level of sophistication. Alexander Wang and Prada gave us buttery leather versions with striking metal hardware, while Balenciaga, Gucci and Fenty x Puma went down the athleisure route with logo heavy nylon designs.
Whatever style you decide on just remember that these days it’s how you wear it that really matters. According to street style favourites Adwoa Aboah and Kendall Jenner, crossbody-style is the way to go. Yes, it seems the hip-hugging accessory has left the waist and migrated north, planting itself firmly across our chests, casually slung from the shoulders. Definitely how one should be wearing the trend in 2018.
