Hedi Slimane’s fascination with America’s west-coast subculture and the indie rock scene has always preceded him. We knew what to expect when Saint Laurent announced the escape to Palm Springs for their autumn/winter show in the music-lovers paradise, The Hollywood Palladium — and boy, what a spectacle it was! A dressier than usual selection of the “part one” of women’s pre-fall collection has models marching across the runway in the historic venue in looks mined from the Rive Gauche archives of the Seventies era that included tight long puffed sleeves, blouson bows and midi skirts in straight silhouettes, along with culottes and caftans. Slimane even reused the iconic 82 Musical Note print threaded in silver on one of this glittering sequined pieces. The collection stayed true to the essence of the house with signature pieces making rounds like the skinny pants, velvet blazers, topcoats, and motto jackets.
