One of the hot contenders for the cult boot of the year, Alexander McQueen’s Tread Slick was first seen as part of the SS20 pre-collection, and – pre-lockdown, at least – has been spotted on a variety of stylish stars, including the exquisitely-attired Timothée Chalamet, French singer/songwriter, Soko and Russian stylist and curator, Marie Koberidze.
A lighter version of its leather predecessor, the Tread Boot, the unisex Tread Slick is crafted in canvas with an oversized rubber sole, and available in an array of beautiful seasonal shades. Offering a perfect mix of form and function, and just the thing for maintaining a stylish life in lockdown as we head towards summer, the Tread Slick is the latest pillar piece from the house to be showcased as part of #McQueenCreators, a project conceived at the start of the isolation period to inspire and initiate conversation, encouraging creativity at home among McQueen’s Instagram followers.
Kicking off #McQueenCreators with sketches of the Roses installation at Alexander McQueen’s New Bond Street open studio, a new creative concept is launched each week. As restrictions began to fractionally ease last week, the house invited photographers, based in different parts of the world, to capture the comfort of nature (with proper social distancing measures in place, of course) as part of the Nature challenge. “I’ve always been inspired by nature – it’s a thread which runs through everything we create at McQueen” said the house’s Creative Director, Sarah Burton of the project.
A handful of the same photographers were invited to capture McQueen’s latest iconic shoe – the Tread Slicks – in their social isolation environment. Photographed in natural settings across the world, from London to Berlin, Argentina to Italy and back again, the shots mirror a nostalgia within those affected by at-home confinement.
Released both in store and online this week, the Tread Slicks are tipped as the perfect post-quarantine pick-me-up, or, in the meantime, for an exploration into the outdoors.
