Zuhair Murad's Phoenician Princess

In homage to Phoenicia, Zuhair Murad encapsulates the allure of contemporary sirens, epitomising a liberated, triumphant woman.

In a dazzling homage to the rich heritage of Phoenicia, the cradle of modern-day Lebanon, Zuhair Murad unveiled a collection that redefines red carpet opulence. With a flair that is quintessentially Murad, each model marched out in a variety of gowns clad with chains gemstones, baubles of silver and gold.

The artistry of the Baalbek-born designer was evident in the meticulous selection of fabrics – the ethereal tulle, the whispering chiffon, and the fluid draped jersey. These were not merely garments but canvases, adorned with beaded fringes, bold jewelry encrusted with crystals intricately woven into precisely placed cutouts, evoking a sense of timeless elegance.

Yet, amidst this spectacle of embellishment, some creations stood out for their sublime restraint. A wine red Grecian gown whispered of ancient elegance, its simplicity amplified by the precision of its drape. Other masterpieces in copper and gold, respectively, were judiciously accented at the waist and shoulder with rough-cut semiprecious stones.

Murad navigated the fine line between theatricality and wearable art with aplomb. It is easy to imagine many of these silhouettes – a billowing white halter neck, a silver dress with daring cutouts, and the fluidity of scarlet red drapes – being worn by Hollywood's A-list at the upcoming Oscars' red carpet. Indeed, he's known to be a favourite of the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, Deepika Padukone and Eva Longoria, to name but a few.

This collection is not just a parade of gowns but a narrative of contrasts – where opulence meets simplicity, where the past is woven into the fabric of the future. Murad, in this tribute to Phoenicia, has not only paid homage to a historic civilisation but has also reimagined its splendour for the modern-day siren.
