It’s that time of year again when the theme for the following year's Met Gala is revealed. As 2025 approaches, May will be here before we know it, and the Metropolitan Museum will once again be filled with A-listers in outfits designed to wow.
For those unfamiliar, the Met Gala is an annual fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. Often dubbed “fashion’s biggest night out”, it attracts top celebrities, designers and cultural icons, all showcasing extravagant outfits based on the year’s theme. Each gala coincides with the unveiling of the Costume Institute's spring exhibition, making it both a star-studded red carpet and an important moment in the fashion calendar.
As always, the Met Gala will take place on the first Monday in May, which falls on 5th May 2025. The theme? “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”. While further details have yet to be fully announced, Vogue has teased that the exhibition will explore "the style of Black men through the lens of dandyism, from the 18th century to the present day."
Vogue also stated: "Drawing inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, the exhibit will showcase garments, paintings, photographs and more - all celebrating the indelible style of Black men within the context of dandyism, spanning from the 18th century to modern times. As such, the 2025 co-chairs could not be more fitting."
The co-chairs for the event have also been announced as Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour, with honorary chair LeBron James.
