Bearing no tags of seasons or gender, the latest Burberry campaign is the brand’s first step towards its re-invention, allowing the men’s and women’s collections to be available for immediate sale. And what better way to break into the June ads than the Patchwork— the label’s multi-textured and patterned it-bag this season — which is also available to purchase in stores.

In the spirit of new beginnings and celebrating old friendships, the project combines original illustrations by British artist Luke Edward Hall teamed with portraits captured by iconic photographer Mario Testino. On the occasion of celebrating her 10th year of working with Burberry, supermodel Edie Campbell makes a comeback in the campaign, along with Callum Turner, who returned to be the face of the project for the second time.

“I love the human element of the drawings onto the photographs. In this digital world we are living, the softness and handmade feeling adds something intimate. We are constantly moving forward in the way we communicate and this feels a very fresh approach,” says Mario Testino of the collaboration with Hall, who hand-painted the backdrop to some of the campaign images—blurring painting with photography for the first time in a fashion campaign.

The eclectic range of bags is created with a combination of colours, textures and embellishments in patchwork styles, with each one named after a British town, street or village. Referencing a mix of patterns and textures influenced by British artists, musicians and history, the Patchwork bag along with plenty of outerwear styles including military coats, the iconic Heritage Trench Coat, and the Buckle Boot for women, will be available to purchase worldwide, in June.
