One of the first fashion houses to abandon the out-of-sync fashion week form, Saint Laurent has opted to reveal its latest menswear collection via a beautifully choreographed film, entitled No Matter How Long The Night Is. Curated by Anthony Vaccarello, the six-minute project used videos, augmented reality and 3D lenticular imagery to traverse across the globe and showcase models leaping over Parisian rooftops, climbing up the Eiffel Tower and dangling from the Sacré-Cœur, before jumping into scenes that capture New York’s concrete jungle and the Great Wall of China aglow at night.
Made for the adrenaline-seeker, the film is full of incredible shots and jaw-dropping moments — as models hurtle through the sky at dawn and dash over high-rise buildings after-dark. Perched on windowsills dressed in Saint Laurent’s signature razor-sharp tailored suits (in ivory, black and shimmering slate grey), the men are also adorned in unexpected bursts of tropical hues painted across hibiscus-printed shirts worn with fluid pants and rope sandals that allow you to move, and quite literally leap into the horizon.
Always circling back to Paris, No Matter How Long the Night Is ends with one of Saint Laurent’s epic runway moments set in the shadows of a glittering Eiffel Tower. And a fleeting appearance from actress Charlotte Gainsbourg offers an insight into the Saint Laurent spring/summmer 2021 woman — who is wearing an elegant short suit. Saint Laurent is jumping forward into the future with a breathtaking film that can be watched over and over again, unlike an extravagant catwalk show.
