The long-awaited Met Gala took place on Monday 6 May and celebrities showed-up and showed-out for the occasion. The 2024 Met Gala celebrated the Costume Institute's exhibition titled Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, which displays rare archival pieces from fashion history and honours the delicate nature of the designs. Mirroring the fragility of the garments, the dress code for the event was Garden of Time, based upon the 1962 short story of the same name written by J.G Ballard.
It was predicted that we would see plenty of nature-inspired ensembles as well as archival gowns that played off the underlying theme of fragility. And, while some celebrities didn't quite get the memo, there were plenty that beautifully encapsulated the theme, from Tyla's fragile Balmain gown evoking 'sands of time' to Emma Chamberlain in Jean Paul Gaultier.
All eyes were on the evening's co-chairs, Zendaya, who made her return after a six-year hiatus; Bad Bunny; Jennifer Lopez and Chris Hemsworth, who attended for the first time. The ladies stole the attention on the famous stairs in Maison Margiela and John Galliano gowns and a custom Schiaparelli creation, respectively, while the men looked dapper in Maison Margiela and Tom Ford.
Here, MOJEH rounds-up the celebrities that perfectly captured the dress code.
