With many real life runway presentations still on pause, and virtual shows gaining more momentum, the catwalk is becoming a collectable. Teaming up with Sotheby’s, Miuccia Prada decided to list items from her last solo outing (before Raf Simons joined the house) for sale; including the Aw20 show invitations, polaroids snapped by models, backstage photographs, full outfits and accessories straight from the runway and unique pieces from the set (designer Rem Koolhaas’ Greek Titan Atlas would certainly make a bold statement in your living room).
Entitled ‘Tools of Memory,’ the auction is being held to raise money for UNESCO’s Covid-19 Global Education Coalition and its new campaign entitled ‘Keeping girls in the picture,’ an initiative which helps to promote the continuity of learning during closures and ensure a safe return to school for all women across the world.
The auction features 72 lots from Prada’s autumn/winter 2020 show and is open for bidding until October 15. Whether you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind piece (a pastel blue dress with an embellished beaded fringe neckline that will not be available in boutiques), a rare find (the equestrian statue that stood in the centre of the runway) or a keepsake to frame and cherish (intimate photographs taken by Daniel Arnold, Phil Meech and Gigi Hadid), ‘Tools of Memory’ offers a unique opportunity to literally shop the runway, while raising funds for a meaningful cause.
