Virgil Abloh has been appointed as the next artistic director of menswear at Louis Vuitton
It’s been confirmed: founder and designer of luxury streetwear label Off-White, Virgil Abloh, is the next artistic director for Louis Vuitton’s menswear line. One of the very few African-American’s at the top of a French heritage house, his appointment comes as part of a shakeup at LVMH’s menswear side. The move follows the departure of Kim Jones, Abloh’s predecessor at Louis Vuitton, to Dior Homme to replace designer Kris van Assche. In an interview with The New York Times, Abloh expressed his plans to relocate his family to Paris to take the job, “I feel elated. This opportunity to think through what the next chapter of design and luxury will mean at a brand that represents the pinnacle of luxury was always a goal in my wildest dreams. And to show a younger generation that there is no one way anyone in this kind of position has to look is a fantastically modern spirit in which to start.” Abloh will show his first collection for Louis Vuitton during Paris Men’s Fashion Week in June.
