Dior have once again recruited the infallible talents of French actress Marion Cotillard to front their latest Lady Dior campaign for Pre-Fall 2015. Shot on location in California’s solar farm field, Cotillard showcases both the sequinned jacquard cannage motif Lady Dior bag and the silver tone perforated calfskin micro cannage motif Lady Dior bag, along with designs from Raf Simons’ Esprit Dior show held in Tokyo late last year. Photographed by industry icon, Peter Lindbergh – a Lady Dior staple since Marion’s induction, and filmed by Eliott Bliss who produced Matronomy’s Enter the Game music video starring the actress wearing Dior AW14, the campaign evokes the extraterrestrial vibe of Raf’s Dior world.

The Lady Dior bag is one of the most recognisable luxury handbags in the world. Rising in popularity in 1995 after France’s First Lady, Bernadette Chirac presented the Princess of Wales the latest Christian Dior handbag crafted from black leather with delicate stitching, the bag became an instant cult classic. Spotted on the arm of Princess Diana, at that time the most photographed woman in the world, the House of Dior decided to rename the bag in honour of her allegiance to the brand, titled the Lady Dior.

Each hand crafted design requires a minimum of eight hours to construct with 130 pieces of leather dyed, sanded and hand-stitched around a wooden mold. The signature cannage pattern and stitched leather pays homage to Mr Dior’s first fashion show in 1947 decorated with Napoleon III chairs.
