Kim Kardashian West launched SKIMS solutionwear in 2018, receiving rave reviews for its effectiveness, inclusive sizing and shade range; it is now valued at $1.6 billion. Originally designed to be worn underneath clothes, Kim Kardashian West has announced a collaboration with none other than Italian Maison Fendi. They are the latest fashion brands to join the collaboration craze; although Gucci teamed up with Balenciaga, and Fendi swapped ateliers with Versace, SKIMS x Fendi is possibly the most surprising of them all.
The collection comprises swimwear, hosiery, sports bras and solutionwear staples as well as a range of ready-to-wear pieces in rainbow hues, including everyday separates, logo-embossed bodycon dresses, leather dresses in SKIMS' signature neutrals (KKW's favourite piece from the collection, she confessed) and a logo-lined puffer. SKIMS will also be debuting footwear and accessories with its take on the Fendi Peekaboo bag and First heel.
In the era of athleisure where the lines between innerwear, outerwear and activewear are becoming increasingly blurred, SKIMS has been a consistent sell-out with customers crashing the website with every launch. The hysteria actually convinced Fendi's artistic director of couture and womenswear, Kim Jones to go ahead with the collaboration. "The idea for the collaboration came about when my team and I were sitting around a table at the Fendi Studio in Rome. Suddenly, all the women went silent and started looking at their phones... they were waiting for the launch of the new SKIMS collection. It was then that I thought: Let's do something together".
Kim Kardashian West took to Instagram - where else? - to share a statement on the collaboration: "Both Fendi and SKIMS have a cultural power very different from eachother, but equally as strong. We share a desire to push boundaries and challenge convention." The collection will launch on 9 November at 5PM UAE time on the official website and, if previous drops are anything to go by, you better set your alarm. Join the waitlist
