After the shock early departure of Gucci creative director Frida Giannini, there has been mounting speculation over who will step in to fill her shoes. Enter Alessandro Michele, who has worked at the label, and with Giannini herself, since 2002. Seen taking to the runway alongside his team for his final bow, the behind-the-scenes creative will no doubt bring a fresh approach to the collections, as was the case at Monday’s gender-blurring Men’s Fall 2015 fashion show in Milan. With the cut and material of the clothes lending a more feminine edge with blouses and chiffon peppered along the runway, as well as female models slid in seamlessly among the men, is this a sign that Gucci will push the boundaries of androgyny until they are blown out of the water? With a front row standing ovation for his first show, (allegedly put together in a week following Giannini’s departure) Michele looks set to take the fashion world by storm. After years working behind the scenes it is his time to shine.
