While exercising and maintaining that healthy lifestyle can be difficult at the best of times, throw fasting into the equation and it could seem almost impossible. Luckily, there’s nothing quite like some stylish new workout gear to get us in the mood for a sweat session, and UAE-based label L’Couture has some of the most fashion-forward athleisurewear collections on the market. The brand's latest, and first eco-friendly collection, Seamless holds true to its feminine and minimalistic flair, featuring smooth fabrics without seams for maximum comfort during workouts. MOJEH speaks to founder and designer Lyndsay Doran about her label, life lessons, and why it’s more important than ever to keep fit and healthy during the Holy Month…
What initially inspired you to launch L’Couture?
L’Couture was inspired by own fitness journey. After I started working out regularly, I saw that there wasn’t quality athleisure that had great fit and style in the market, so I set out to create my own.
What is your favourite thing about the job ?
The opportunity to create pieces that truly resonate and are loved by so many inspiring women.
How environmentally friendly and sustainable is L’Couture?
We have been working hard on this aspect of the brand and have recently launched our first eco-friendly collection, manufactured in Europe under strict ethical and environmental policies. The Seamless collection was produced with minimal waste and reduced water consumption, in a world-renowned European mill, certified with the highest environmental standards.
When would you say is the best time to train during Ramadan?
It’s extremely important to fuel your body before and after you exercise to give you the energy you need to train. I would personally say the best time to train during Ramadan is after you break your fast, as that is when you will be most rested and have the most energy from food.
In three words, how would you describe the L’Couture woman?
Strong, confident and empowered.
How would you describe your own personal style?
I prefer casual fashion as I like to be comfortable while running my day-to-day errands around Dubai. My go-to outfit would be black leggings, which I style with chunky boots or sneakers, but I do love to get glammed up for special occasions too.
What advice would you give other women looking to launch their own start-up?
Don’t wait for the ‘perfect’ opportunity or be indecisive. Set a goal and go for it, and once you achieve that, set a bigger goal. Also find your community. There are great heights that networking and feedback from supportive and smart people can help you reach.
What’s next for L’Couture?
We’re beyond excited to be opening our first flagship store here in Dubai very soon. On a global scale, we’re expanding, setting up our offices in the UK and US. It’s an amazing journey for us to have grown from a small local brand to an international scale. Shop now at lcouture.com
