Getting tired of shuffling around in the same old sweatpants and feeling the need to inject some high-fashion credentials into your new-season loungewear? Combining both ease and elegance, Sydney-based label Common Hours is the answer. Launched in 2019, designer Amber Symond tells MOJEH that her aim for the brand was to transcend loungewear and create pieces that explore elevated craftsmanship through a contemporary lens. The result? A dreamy collection of fluid robes, designed in limited runs of 10 to 50 pieces that resonate not only indoors at home, but also at dinner, Eid celebrations and everything in between.

“I think a robe in its many various silhouettes lends itself to a sense of refined ease, elegance and versatility,” she says. “Our robes could be worn easily from drinks to black tie, or simply to lunch, or indeed, should you so wish, lounging or entertaining at home.” Designed to be layered over dresses and separates or tied and belted alone, every Common Hours robe is inspired by the ritual of relaxation, with each piece a canvas for the designer to work her magic. “For me, a robe and its different ways of wearing provide a perfect blank slate we could imbue with inspirations: art, poetry, lyrics and prose,” explains Amber. “It truly was robes in various designs that became my imaginary canvas – versatile and modest, yet highly feminine.”

Invest in a Common Hours creation and you’ll also be rewarded in terms of both comfort and quality, with each design crafted in French and Italian silk and sustainable organic cotton. “Our pieces are for the thoughtful collector seeking out the rare and exceptional,” adds the designer. “These garments take a long time to create. Our silks are sourced from mills in Paris, Como in Italy, and the world’s finest milled silk ‘fairy leather’ from Fukushima in Japan. Leather for our robes, meanwhile, originates in New Zealand and is produced in Milan, while our bespoke print placement happens in London and our hand-embroidered panels are meticulously applied by renowned artisans in Mumbai, India, all before being assembled in Sydney, Australia.” A truly international affair, then – that’s our Eid wardrobe well and truly sorted.
