Changing Spots
Animal prints never really go out of fashion but for this season, designers like Stella McCartney, Maison Margiela and Roberto Cavalli brought back roaring versions of the beloved print in statement coats, dresses and suits. The designs for pre-collections are not for the faint hearted, so go big and bold when donning a leopard printed fur coat or busy short dress.

Picnic Basket
The summery gingham is revamped for a bolder statement in pre-fall this season. Balenciaga used overall check prints in pinks, greys and blacks while Giorgio Armani and Markus Lupfer stuck to basics with one overall separate. The new season style dictates wearing the print from head-to-toe, adding colour block accessories such as a thick belt or cross shoulder bag to avoid an overwhelming plaid overload.

Bird Watch
From swallows to flamingos, bright, bold and beautiful bird motifs were nested on glorious Gucci gowns, modern Giamba skater dresses and leather pieces from Coach, proving the tropical print to be a hit for pre-fall. Colourful add-ons will incorporate a more cheerful element to your look in the dreary autumnal season, so don't be shy to take a pick from vibrant s/s16 accessories or resort 2017 separates to mix and match this trans-seasonal trend.

Seeing Double
The past years have established that twice as much denim is twice as good, if done the right way. Call it the Canadian tuxedo or Texas Ranger, the double denim trend is here to stay. Emilio Pucci added patchwork surprises to their version while Chloé added voluminous silhouettes with neckties for a more bohemian touch. Add tan accessories such as a fringed bag and ankle boots for a complete western makeover.

Sheer Audacity
While Givenchy continued their work in romantic lace for pre-fall all the way from their spring/summer collection, Chanel took a more rock-chic approach with peek-a-boo lace inserts teamed with rough leather. Layering a lace slip dress with a white shirt or polo neck underneath is aces in the seasonal style handbook this year. Pick a neutral layer to bring out the delicate work of your lace ensemble.
