Bulgari's Famous Serpenti Bag Gets Reworked By Alexander Wang

Launching next month at New York Fashion Week, Alexander Wang’s latest collaboration reimagines Bulgari’s iconic serpent motif for an exclusive handbag capsule, Serpenti Through the Eyes of Alexander Wang.

In keeping with the spirit of Bulgari’s ‘Serpenti Through the Eyes Of’ series, which kicked off in 2017, the limited edition collection centres around the reinterpretation of the Iconic Serpenti Forever Bag and the concept of packaging as luxury, taking something that is traditionally overlooked, and making it the focal point of the collaboration.

Inspired by Bulgari’s heritage and blending Wang’s signature high-low approach, the collection uses traditional packaging components including the watch box, the dust bag and the paper shopping bag along with a vintage-inspired Bulgari serpent head jewel from the 1950s, resulting in a new fun and fresh proposition for the handbag category with the makings of a new signature motif.

“When Bulgari approached me to collaborate, I knew I wanted to create something that focused on the everyday overlooked items when purchasing luxury goods and transform it into something desirable for a global consumer of all ages,” says Alexander.

Underpinned by a pervasive theme of transformation, the capsule unites an eclectic mix of innovative shapes with traditional silhouettes, and comprises six different styles, available in a range of materials and sizes, spanning from soft calf leather in a colour palette of white, black and mint green to lush natural python skin and shiny lizard.

The hero Belt Bag, with two serpent closures, two detachable straps and a detachable handle, which can be worn around the waist, as a cross-body or over the shoulder – offering ultra-chic, ultra-functional and ultra-wearable options Alexander Wang fans will love; the double flap Duette reveals a new edgy attitude and a functional appeal reflecting in the inside practical pocket, while each of the three flaps of the Triplette shoulder bag are crowned by the new Wang snakehead closure, featuring three serpents instead of one.

Available in three sizes, making it a must-have for all kinds of retail therapy excursions, the shopping tote’s clean, functional design is elevated by a snakebite detail, while the new Minaudière nods to Bulgari’s DNA as a jeweller: its square, structured shape reminiscent of a  jewellery box, complete with a custom Serpenti bracelet attachment constructed in the brand’s iconic tubogas style.

The Two-in-One satchel, a supple leather satchel shaped handbag with drawstring leather dust bag exterior, complete with a vintage-inspired serpent head flap closure rounds out the offering – all of which are destined to become the fashion pack’s arm candy of choice during fashion month.
