MFW: La Dolce Vita

For the past few seasons, Dolce & Gabbana have spun the same yarn, and we’re not obliged to deny them anytime soon. There were hand-embroidered epaulettes on cropped military jackets, fringed hems and lacy cocktail dresses, polka dots and even a dress with printed pasta tied in red ribbons. Quirky? Yes. Ground-breaking? Not quite.

But, where Dolce & Gabbana have won us over lies in their formula: Couture-like ready-to-wear that is impossible to duplicate. The disco frenzy evoked by a multi coloured sequin coat in runway look 26 and the opulent craftsmanship of floral applique smattered with gems on a pair of shorts, as seen in look 58, are strong examples of this formula. You wont see a pair like that in any high-street store, that’s for sure.

Accessories followed the same baroque design from past seasons, albeit with covetable design alterations such as fully reflective lenses on sunglasses and delicate embroidery on rectangular bags. In a time where new technologies by third parties continue to close in on the luxury sector, designers like Dolce & Gabbana are giving their loyal clientele exactly what they pay for; incomparable, inimitable luxury clothing.
