Dubai’s New Stylish Hangout Is Japanese Dining, But Not As You Know It

Plans for the long weekend? Try Downtown's newest restaurant recruit and dip into Japanese dishes with a vibrant twist

Opening just in time for the long weekend, Downtown Dubai has a new stylish hangout to try — and it comes with an intriguing concept. Blending Japanese cooking with the vibrant culture of Latin America, Mami Umami puts a colourful twist on izakaya-style dining.

Situated on the 23rd floor of the Renaissance Downtown Dubai Hotel, the new restaurant promises an unconventional mix of flavours and styles to create an experience unlike any other in Dubai.

Curated by executive chef Carlos Rodriguez, the menu is a rich fusion of soulful Latin American recipes combined with Japanese ingredients and techniques. The result? Dishes popping with vibrant colours and unexpected flair.

From grilled dishes (Carbon De Japon) to fried indulgences (Tempura y Frita), raw bites (Lo Crudo) and signature eats such as sushi, sashimi and maki, the menu is full of different plates to dip into and bursting with new taste sensations to open your mind to.

The vibe is sleek and stylish, elevated by a playlist that flows from laid-back Latin and Bossa-nova tunes to funky jazz at dinnertime and upbeat Caribbean throwbacks after-dark.

The restaurant has elegant spaces for every kind of guest, boasting a bar and lounge for those who prefer a street-food style bite and a creatively mixed cocktail (and a completely different signature menu to test out), and relaxed open-air, botanical-filled terrace with a Latin grill made for cooler winter nights.
