On The Street: The Power Suit

Oct 02, 2019 | 2 min read

Back-to-work attire or weekend brunch appeal, here's how to wear the new power suit.

For chic tailoring tips, look to the well-suited street style set…

Power dressing was in full force for AW19, with signature suiting on the runways at Givenchy, Balenciaga, Saint Laurent and Acne Studios.

Strong sculpted shoulders, nipped-in waists and wide-leg trousers came in every shade from corporate grey to sherbet lemon. From Tom Ford’s velvet jacket paired with silk pants to Gucci’s vanilla skirtsuit, there was plenty of tailoring to take inspiration from.

On the streets, show-goers proved that nothing beats the versatility of a good suit. Boxy blazers and ‘80s silhouettes took the lead, especially when paired with knitted polo necks and mini top handle bags.

Pointy white pumps and ankle boots added flair to neutral tones, whilst mix and match contrasts created an unexpected, yet still polished variation on the classic pantsuit.

Back-to-work attire or weekend brunch appeal, the power suit can adapt to any mood or occasion – expect to see it transition from season to season.
