As Atelier Versace kicked off Couture Week last night, we ask if the catwalk is a sign of what’s to come over the rest of the week

Paris Haute Couture has finally arrived, with Donatella kicking off the start of an extravagant week with Atelier Versace. Karlie Kloss and Jourdan Dunn took to the runway alongside 90s catwalker Amber Valletta, while Hollywood’s mother-daughter power duo Kate Hudson and Goldie Hawn watched from the front row.

Donatella debuted her usual overtly sexy style with long gowns that were cut-out and split thigh high to reveal flashes of skin. This season, however, the house also showed off a more subtly sexy look with tailoring mixed in among the full-blown glamour. Cropped jackets were thrown over dresses while Karlie Kloss made a strong case for the evening jumpsuit.

The effect was altogether more powerful and structured, with statement shoes coming in the form of metal heels and a severe pointed toe. Meanwhile in the beauty department we’ll wait to see if the Versace take on the new smoky eye will become the make-up-du-jour for the season (it’s not for the wallflowers among us).

So will we be slinging jackets over our gowns or updating our eveningwear for something altogether more structured? MOJEH will be watching the rest of the week for all the latest trends to come off the couture catwalks.
