Giorgio Armani proved that he certainly wears the trousers with his AW15 collection. It’s the brand’s 40 anniversary in April and, unusually, there were no show notes to greet us at our seats. This introduced the theme of the unexpected before anyone even set foot on the catwalk.
The debut skirt-trouser combination layers loose skirts decorated with brushstrokes over slim trousers, however there is a hidden element to the look you can’t help but love. The two pieces aren’t layered; instead, the wrap-around skirt and trousers seem as one, a design challenging gender neutrality by combining female and male styles for an amazing result.
The simplicity of Armani’s AW15 designs are the key to their brilliance, a tailored mix of strong jackets and trousers, feminine blouses and soft gracious jumpers. Armani certainly closed Milan Fashion Week on a high, generously bleeding colours, the fluidity of their many shades featuring in the collection’s base design - the pant suit - making sure that every look oozes finesse and purpose.
The collection wraps up with exactly that: wrap-front dresses that glimmer with every movement, flashing flesh for a sultry effect to the often masculine-shaped, yet feminine palette-based collection.
Watercolours have never looked so wintery in a sea of designs emerging from Armani’s take on AW15. The huge applause that followed the show will no doubt reverberate thoughout his anniversary year.
