Hats, the way we do it

Raffia, straw, woven - it’s always one of the biggest hat stories we see. This season designers really upped the ante. At Dolce the hats were a work of art, covered in contrasting textures and trimmed with straw tassels. While at Chanel is was all exaggerated raw edges, tall on top, and tied up with a sleek black ribbon. These hats are for beach babes, Mexico jaunts and the South of France.

Sport and fashion collided at Philip Lim and Spotmax where floppy hats in cotton and shell-like fabrics seemed like they might provide protection from all elements - come rain or shine. The have earned their place as the go-to headgear for a laidback cool look, as well as unpredictable climes. Modern and minimal, a hybrid of fashion and function, meet the sports luxe accessory du jour.

As always, fashion also favours the bold. At Etro hats in tropical prints and clashing colours with wide-brims seemed perfectly suited to an Amalfi coast getaway. While at Michael Kors, colour, print and rich textures proved a head-turning combination. Whatever your destination of choice, lose your fashion inhibitions with a larger than life hat.

Bucket hats are back, and it looks like they're here to stay. Banish any visions of a vintage Kangol and look to modern textures and print for a new season update. We love Paul & Joe’s sherbet-hued tie-dye version, it oozes the right kind of '90s nostalgia. And Loeffer Randal’s leopard print number is already a hit with influencers across the globe. Whether linen, straw, plain or pattered, there is something for everyone.
