Haute Couture AW17: Highlights Day One

Dutch designer Ronald Van Der Kemp's collection exuded an air of rock and roll cool with exotic skins, metallic leathers and sharply cut shoulders setting a tough girl tone.
Decadent ruffles and detailed applique florals were both feminine and fun at Xuan Couture.
Galia Lahav played with embellishment and proportion sending out creations in an array of cuts and silhouettes with a hint of sparkle.
Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez had a change of scene from their native New York, showing Provenza Schouler's spring/summer18 in Paris, punctuating their collection's largely monochrome palette with intense pops of red.
The Mulleavy sisters also embraced a change of scene, presenting their spring/summer18 collection in Paris. Reminiscent of a midsummer night's dream, beautiful florals, delicate ruffles and elegant layering hit all the right notes.
There was an air of regality to Guo Pei's collection. Rich jewel tones and iridescent shades had a striking effect on the runway as did the plethora of red carpet-worthy gowns included within the collection.
Miu Miu's Resort 2018 collection also showed on Day one, with Miuccia Prada selecting the Paris Automobile Club as her venue. The collection featured plenty of racing motifs such as checkered flags, mechanic's overalls and vintage appliqué badges and branding.
Peter Dundas debuted his first Resort collection for his eponymous new brand which was full of his signature cuts and seductive boho dresses which are sure to be a hit with his A-list clientele.
Australian designer Toni Maticevski made his Parisian debut, showing his Resort 2018 collection which featured plenty of his sharply cut dresses and separates as well as a number of more feminine, floaty dresses in hues of grey and white.
Hermes also chose to showcase their Resort 2018 collection in the French capital at the brand's flagship store on the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore. A jovial mix of colours and prints the collection included swimwear, outerwear and a range of highly covetable dresses

With Haute Couture Week upon us once again, we’ve rounded up the highlights of the first day of the autumn/winter17 shows as well as a number of spring/summer18 ready-to-wear collections and Cruise 2018 colelctions which showed on the Haute Couture schedule for the first time.
