12 Spring Colour Trends To Brighten Your Day (And Your Wardrobe)

Back-to-business suiting, eclectic evening looks, glorious rainbow hues – 2022’s spring trends marry joy with function for a new season wardrobe that will elevate the everyday

Blanc Slate

Tank, bralette, sweater, skirts, sandals and earrings, all Givenchy

More a recurrence than a passing trend, a flurry of all-white outfits sashayed down the runway this year, from lace and tulle separates at Givenchy to stark white suiting at Peter Do and Michael Kors. Sumptuously sophisticated, wear top-to-toe if you’re feeling brave.

Ivy League

Dress, earrings and ring, Bottega Veneta

Proving you can never have too much of a good thing, designers are shaking things up with stripes once more, playing with colours, textures and sizes for an original take on the trend. Swap nautical nuances for hyper bright hues for extra style points.

Birds of a Feather

Top and shorts, Valentino; Bag, Valentino Garavani

Not one for wallflowers, a whimsical spring trend for feathers is taking over everything from tops, shorts and dresses to statement accessories. Designed to command attention, Valentino’s catwalk feathers were a mismatch of colours and cuts. On the street, a feather trim or pair of heels is a more subtle way to work the trend.

Suit Yourself

Jacket, skirt, belt, shoes and earrings, Al Miu Miu

As the line between gendered dressing continues to blur, menswear persists in its influence on womenswear, with duality dressing that combines sharp tailoring with a monochrome palette. Look to Miu Miu for a lesson in snappy, stylish androgyny.

Art Attack

Jacket, shirt, shorts and earring, all Dior

Banish that dreary tartan to the back of your wardrobe, the catwalks are all about referencing abstract artwith haphazard patterns in exciting and colourful ways. With bold prints manifesting across dresses, separates and, over at Dior, chic co-ords, keep the rest of the look minimal for max impact.

Lusting Over Lilac

Dress and sandals, both Sportmax

From lavender and lilac to Parma violet, purple is the hue du jour, with a cavalcade of pretty garments making their way down the runways. Taking over all of our favourite fashion pieces, it wasn’t named Pantone’s colour of the year for nothing.

Coat Tales

Coat, belt and earrings, all Fendi

Usually statement pieces reserved for the party season, designers have gone all out with their outerwear. Given the full peacock treatment at Fendi, minimalism has been thrown out of the window. Work clashing colours and statement jewellery for ostentatious dressing at its best.

Play Suit

Suit, top, bracelet and necklace, all Versace

Perhaps the season’s most refreshing trend, fruity suiting is having a moment right now. Centred on the mood- boosting power of Crayola brights, whether for the office, dinner or a red carpet event, it’s the perfect antidote to the current seriousness of the world.

Mellow Yellow

Dress and boots, both Balenciaga

Colour trends are like leaves – they change with the seasons. And, as far as spring trends go, we’re seeing a bright yellow renaissance amongst us, with everyone from Balenciaga and Moschino to Rodarte and Valentino lifting spirits with the summery shade. A great option for wedding season.

Tangerine Times

Trench coat, top and skirt, all Max Mara

Playful, bright and endlessly inspiring, designers are returning to coral en masse, with the rich hue evoking the joyfulness of a summer vacation. Max Mara led the pack with one-tone dressing ready to take on the season – co-ordinate with coral eyeshadow to top it off.

Mini Marvels

Knit, skirt and shoes, all Prada

If there’s one trend that will define SS22, the mini skirt takes the crown. Prada’s duchesse satin styles, complete with trailing trains, should be your first port of call. With hemlines much higher than previous seasons, team with long- sleeved knits for a more modest look.

Gothic Goddess

Jacket, leggings and sandals, all Dolce & Gabbana

Gothcore is making a comeback, this time with a sensual and seductive twist. Think plenty of lace, fishnet and figure- hugging silhouettes, this dark and exciting aesthetic is the antithesis to all the bold and colourful looks borne from the pandemic. Choose your tribe wisely.
